Police ask for public’s help in search for missing elderly woman

Maria Del Carmen Contreras

UPDATE: The missing woman has been found.

The Gwinnett County Police Department is seeking the public’s help in locating a missing 73-year-old woman.

Maria Del Carmen Contreras was last seen about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at her daughter’s home on Lakeland Drive in Dacula. She has several medical conditions that require round-the-clock care and when her family went to wake her at 2 a.m. Thursday for a medical treatment, she was not in her bedroom.

Maria may be trying to walk to another family member’s home on Mill Grove Terrace, about three miles away from her daughter’s residence. She may be wearing a light blue tank top and a black shawl.  She is approximately 5 feet 2 inches and weighs about 145 pounds. She has light, brownish-grey hair and green eyes.

The police department is asking local residents to check their immediate properties for any possible sightings. Those with doorbell and security cameras are asked to review their footage to see if they identify Maria.

Anyone with information on Maria’s whereabouts is asked to call 911.
