Ride Gwinnett is heralding 2023 as their best year yet.
Jan. 12 Gwinnett County officials introduced the rebranding and new name of Gwinnett’s Transit system which has been operating since 2001 — formally called the Gwinnett County Transit.
Ride Gwinnett marks a new era marked by new bus stop signs, micro transit vehicles, newly wrapped buses, and honors the continued legacy of its previous incarnation,.
This calendar year, they added three new local routes to their service, including:
- Route 25: Gwinnett Place Transit Center in Duluth to Stone Mountain’s Amazon Distribution Warehouse
Launched on on Aug. 28, this route will be servicing Pleasant Hill Road, Lilburn, Mountain Park, and Stone Mountain
- Route 70: Downtown Snellville to the Indian Creek MARTA Station by using Highway 78
Also launched on Aug. 28, this route will be servicing Snellville, Highway 78, and the Indian Creek MARTA station
- Route 50: Buford to Sugarloaf Mills.
Launched on Nov. 20, this route will be servicing Suwanee, Buford, and the Mall of Georgia area.
Aug. 28 marked an introduction of micro transit to the Lawrenceville and Snellville areas with an on-demand, shared-ride service which is not limited by predetermined routes. This new development gives riders more flexibility about where, when, and how they wish their rides to accommodate them. Marked as a defining success, the service will continue on into 2024.
Potential riders may download the Ride Gwinnett app if they wish to start exploring the new service and book rides at their convenience. Such services may also be accessed and booked in advance by phone through the Ride Gwinnett dispatch at 770-246-4770.
September 2023 saw the approval of the Transit Development Plan by the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners. Fueled by anticipated economic and population growth, the plan makes immediate and ongoing long-term recommendations for the transit system through a holistic approach based on capital priorities, operational improvements and current needs for infrastructure support.
Marked by innovative, foundational, and expansive approaches in identifying the right key areas for intervention and improvement, the Transit Development Plan for Ride Gwinnett was formally recognized with the 2023 Georgia Transit Association Innovation Award.
The new plan can be accessed at the link to check out new services which tentatively include:
- Shuttles to the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport;
- Additional local routes
- Bus rapid transit service
- Expansions to Ride Gwinnett’s existing micro transit program.
