Ruth Jones RN
With sadness we tell you that a wonderful woman, wife and mother passed away peacefully in her home on April 13, 2019. Ruth lived a very full life and blessed all of us with her love and care.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 66 years, Mike Jones. Their children Dianne, Danny, Robert and Nancy. She was predeceased by three of her children, Kevin, Kay Marie and David. Also survived by 15 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and her sister, Betty McSpadden. Ruth loved her family, especially celebrations of birthdays, graduations, holidays and weddings.
Ruth also loved and served our Lord through her Catholic faith. She worked, along with her husband Deacon Mike Jones, in many ministries. She was always concerned about the poor and those who were alone.
Ruth and her husband loved to travel to visit family in Texas and Oklahoma and friends wherever they might be.
Ruth was born in Amarillo, Texas on April 23, 1929. Her parents, Roy and Marie Starker, raised Ruth on their farm. Many interesting stories of her life including going to school-a one-room school from the first grade to the eighth grade. Ruth and her sister rode a horse to the school on occasion as others did. Her teacher, Mrs. Hudson, taught all classes at once and Ruth then completed her high school education at St. Mary’s in Amarillo.
Ruth continued her education at Amarillo College where she received her Associates Degree and it was there that she met her future husband Mike. They were married in 1952 when Ruth completed her training to become a registered nurse.
In their married life, Mike and Ruth lived in Texas and Louisiana prior to being relocated to Atlanta in 1969 by Mikes company, Chevron Corporation.
Ruth was dedicated to her children, especially their faith in Jesus Christ and their progress in Education. She was involved in their schools, knew their teachers and coaches.
She was very proud of the fact that all six children graduated from St. Pius X High School in Atlanta.
Ruth loved her Catholic Faith in many ways but especially as a
Stephen Minister leader. She later became a Certified Spiritual Director.
We will all miss her love and presence in our lives. Till we meet again…
