Saturday morning incident proves fatal for pedestrian

BUFORD/SUGAR HILL — Gwinnett County Police responded to an accident scene early Saturday morning involving an SUV and a pedestrian.

Officers with the North Precinct responded to an accident scene at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 23 on Level Creek Road near Cabot Creek Way in the unincorporated Buford/Sugar Hill area.

According to the investigator’s preliminary findings, a grey Ford Escape was traveling westbound on Level Creek Road towards Cabot Creek Way.  The driver of the Escape told officers that a man later identified as Young Woo Kim, age 23 darted into the roadway and collided with the vehicle.

Young was transported to a local hospital where he died the following day from his injuries.

No charges are being filed against the driver of the Ford Escape at this time.

Investigators are looking to see if Young could have been under the influence at the time of the accident.
