Son of ‘Ozark,’ ‘Stranger Things’ actress suffered broken jaw during altercation at Sugar Hill E Center, police report says

The teenage son of an actress who has appeared in the Netflix series “Ozark” and “Stranger Things” suffered a broken jaw during an altercation at Sugar Hill’s E Center in July.

According to an incident report from the Gwinnett County Police Department, Allyssa Brooke-Cox transported her son, Nick Cox, to a hospital in her personal vehicle and told officers she wanted to press charges against the person who caused his injuries.

The altercation occurred July 21 at the Sugar Hill facility. An officer arrived at the scene about 4 p.m. and was told by a witness that a Hispanic male wearing green shorts and a gray shirt had assaulted a teen, broke his jaw and knocked his tooth out.

The officer was able to detain a suspect matching that description as he walking away from the scene. The suspect told the officer he was playing basketball when the victim, Cox, became upset that he was losing and started a verbal argument. The suspect said he told Cox to “Come in the paint,” before the victim ran toward the basketball hoop. The suspect said he planted his feet and the victim ran into him and fell to the ground. The suspect said a friend of the victim then punched him in the head, but no injuries were observed by the officer. Unsure of who had punched him, the suspect said he approached the friend, who put his hands in the air, so he then walked over and punched Cox.

An officer was unable to get a statement from the victim due to his extensive jaw injury.

Surveillance tape of the incident was viewed by officer, but once the suspect and victim walked toward the corner of the basketball court, cameras no longer had full view. The incident report states that in the video, the suspect appeared to continue hitting Cox until he fell to the ground.

An officer met the victim at a local hospital, where staff said he had two broken bones in his jaw and a possible concussion.

The suspect was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery.

Several reports from multiple news outlets indicate the incident was filmed by bystanders who even applauded during the incident. According to those reports, Brooke-Cox and her husband, Robbie Cox, are asking that those bystanders face consequences.
