Buford 9, Parkview 1
An explosive six inning sealed Buford’s 9-1 win over Parkview in the opening round of the GHSA Class AAAAAAA State Softball Tournament in Columbus on Wednesday, Oct. 26.
Freshman Caroline Stanton (10-0) recorded the win for Buford after she pitched for four innings where she allowed five hits, an earned run while striking out six. Senior Olivia Duncan came in for relief and struck out one batter while allowing no hits or runs.
Offensive standouts for Buford against Parkview were Stanton (1-for-3, two-run home run, two RBIs), junior Mackenzie Pickens (2-for-3, solo home run, two RBIs, two runs scored) and sophomore Kylie Gower (1-for-3, two RBIs, one run scored).
The Wolves’ overall season record improves to 30-1.
Buford will play East Coweta on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. in Columbus.
North Gwinnett 3, North Paulding 2
North Gwinnett was able to defeat North Paulding 3-2 in the opening round of the state tournament in Columbus on Wednesday thanks to Amber Reed’s walk-off hit in the eighth inning.
North Gwinnett is the defending Class AAAAAAA state champions.
The Bulldogs will play Hillgrove at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27 in Columbus.
