The Stallions’ girls team started out the tournament with a strong 33-17 win over Appling Christian Academy before claiming a decisive second victory against People’s Baptist Academy by 18-6.
The SHCA middle school girls brought home the championship for the second year in a row by beating Victory Baptist 25-8 in the championship final.
No. 3 Carlee McKinnon was selected to the all-tournament team, and No. 11 Elly Grace Wasden was chosen as the GCAA girls MVP after putting up 35 points, 33 rebounds and 10 blocks.
“This team turned out great because of the hard work, skills, drills and conditioning that my assistants poured into these girls,” head coach Doug Wasden said. “The girls have loved learning the game of basketball and have become very good in a short period of time. They are all very coachable and we have had a great time together.”
The SHCA middle school girls ended their basketball season with an overall record of 14-4.
The boys team closed its undefeated season with a dramatic 28-26 victory over King’s Way Christian School in the championship final.
Stallions’ No. 21 Eli Matthes was chosen for the GCAA all-tournament team, and No. 30 Randall Fanning earned his selection as the GCAA MVP.
The SHCA middle schools boys finished their season with an unbeaten 16-0 record.
“This fact speaks to the teamwork and family atmosphere that surrounds these boys and our program,” said SHCA Athletic Director and Dean of Students Courtney Simmons. “Everyone from administration to parents to students is fully engaged and supportive in helping our programs be such a success.”
