SUGAR HILL — The Sugar Hill City Council will hold an emergency special called meeting at 8 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2020, at City Hall to consider the declaration of a State of Emergency for the City of Sugar Hill in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Following the special called meeting, the city hall will suspend all in-person activities. City staff will continue to provide all remote services and report to the city hall or connect remotely to carry out the daily functions of running the City.
State law allows cities under a declared State of Emergency additional flexibility, including teleconferences in place of large group meetings and possible reimbursements of state and federal funds. It also allows city governments to take other measures to ensure the safety of the general public.
“The potential declaration of a State of Emergency is being considered in order to assess options to put Sugar Hill in the most adaptable position possible as we continue to proactively respond to the Coronavirus pandemic,” City Manager Paul Radford said. said. “Adaptability of operations and leadership decisions allowed for under declaration of a State of Emergency will allow us to be responsive to the recommendation and guidelines of the World Health Organization, White House, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Governor’s Office, as well as Gwinnett County Leadership while we continue to adapt to the ever-evolving situation surrounding the Coronavirus Disease.”
