The city of Suwanee has received two Downtown Excellence Awards from the Georgia Downtown Association.
The awards were presented at the 2023 Georgia Downtown Association Conference on Aug. 23.
In the category for Promotion: Creative New Event and Design, Suwanee was recognized for its interactive public art piece, the Ultimate Participation Trophy, which is made from trophies donated to the city. The piece, reimagined by artist Phil Proctor, was unveiled at the Suwanee Arts Festival in April.
The city also received an award in the category Design: Best Public Improvement Project for its Better Buford Highway Project, which seeks to preserve the walkability of downtown Suwanee and includes the goal of redesigning Buford Highway in the city’s comprehensive plan.
The Georgia Downtown Association is a nonprofit statewide organization that promotes connections between communities and professionals committed to downtown vitality.
