Suwanee Youth Leaders present project to city council

Suwanee Youth Leaders presented a project at the Suwanee City Council meeting on Tuesday, July 27.

The Cheers! project consists of a landscape update to the area behind City Hall that would feature hammock stands, Adirondack chairs, picnic tables and a small library.

The idea for the project was inspired by the memory of the infectiously positive Adam Edge, the former Suwanee Downtown Development manager who passed away in 2020 after battling cancer.

Purnima Magur, Jiali Liu and Ava Belflower of the Suwanee Youth Leaders presented the council with logistics and pricing for the project. They also shared that they have already raised about $8,000 in funding.

Anyone who would like to donate to the service can email syl.07.2022@gmail.com.

The meeting also included local announcements.

During the meeting, the council also approved an alcohol beverage license for a new business at 991 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard called unWine’d & Tap.

Other approved motions included extending the open container boundary for alcoholic beverages to the downtown corridor area and ordering the construction of a new roof for the Suwanee police station.

During the audience participation portion of the meeting, a number of residents came forward to complain about a chicken coop on a private property on Settles Bridge Road. They insisted the coop was in violation of city code and asked that it be removed.

The Suwanee City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, at City Hall. For more information, visit suwanee.com.
