Senior Taylor Malvin was a perfect 6-for-6 at the plate for the Lady Wolves in a doubleheader against Effingham County on Tuesday as part of the GHSA Class AAAAAA State Playoffs. Buford beat Effingham 9-0 in the first game and 6-0 in game two in Springfield, Ga.
In game one, junior Olivia Duncan was on the mound for Buford. It was her 11th complete game pitched of the season. She had a great performance as she gave up no hits or runs, struck out four and walked one opponent.
Malvin was 4-for-4 with two RBIs earned, two runs scored and two stolen bases to lead the Lady Wolves. Other offensive standouts for Buford in game one were junior Emma Castorri (2-for-2, two RBIs), sophomore Adriana Martinez (1-for-3, double, two RBIs and one run) and senior Olivia Haag (2-for-3, double and two runs).
The first game was called after five innings in favor of Buford due to the run rule as they won 9-0.
In the second game of the night, Buford hit two two-run home runs to propel themselves to a 6-0 win over Effingham County.
Sophomore Emma Grace Williams (9-0) pitched her 8th complete game of the season. In her seven innings of work, she gave up four hits and no runs.
Mackenzie Pickens led Buford’s offense going 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Just behind Pickens was Martinez who went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, two RBIs and a run scored. Other offensive standouts for the Lady Wolves were Malvin (2-for-2, double, two runs and a stolen base) and sophomore Madison Pickens (2-for-4, double, one RBI and a run).
Buford (26-2-1) advances to their 17th consecutive trip to the Elite Eight in Columbus. They will play in Columbus for the GHSA Class AAAAAA State Championship title starting Thursday, Oct. 28 at 5 p.m.
