Thursday Softball Report: Buford beats Habersham Central in extra inning

BUFORD  2   HABERSHAM CENTRAL  1

BUFORD — Buford hosted region 8-AAAAAA opponent Habersham Central at the Buford Softball Complex on Thursday.  The Wolves and the Raiders were tied after the seventh inning, the game was forced into an extra-inning where Buford would score to end the game in their favor 2-1.

Freshman Emma Grace Williams (4-0) pitched all eight innings for Buford in which she gave up one run, struck out five batters, and walked two.

Senior Emmy Hall led the Wolves offense going 2-for-4 and earning two RBIs. Hall nailed a line drive into the left-field corner allowing Abbi Perkins to score the game-winning run. In her first varsity start, freshman Tayve Borders went 2-for-3 and stole two bases.  Sophomore Chloe Hatcher was 1-for-3 against the Raiders.

Buford improves to 6-2 on the season and leads the region 3-0.

On Friday, Buford travels down the road to Sugar Hill to take on region opponent Lanier at 4:30 p.m.

LANIER  12   SHILOH  3

SNELLVILLE — The Lanier Longhorns traveled to take on the Shiloh Generals on Thursday.  Lanier’s bats were on fire against Shiloh beating them 12-3.

Lanier’s starting pitcher was junior Lauren Cothern who was on the mound for five innings surrendered two runs on seven hits and struck out three.  Senior Carly Forrester pitched the final two innings for Lanier.  She gave up one run on one hit and struck out two batters.

Leading the Longhorns’ offense was Forrester who was 2-for-3 with two doubles and earned two RBIs.  Sophomore Cecelia Sampona was 2-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs earned.  Rounding out the offensive standouts for Lanier was freshman Samantha Fadely who was 1-for-3 with a single and two RBIs.

Lanier (5-4, 1-2) hosts Buford next at 4:30 p.m. on Friday and then travels to play in the Hog Mountain Invitational at North Oconee High School on Saturday, August 29.  Their first opponent is Elbert County at 11 a.m. and then they play Commerce at 1 p.m.

PEACHTREE RIDGE  6    NORTH GWINNETT  4

SUWANEE — Previously unbeaten North Gwinnett falls to region opponent Peachtree Ridge 6-4 on Thursday at Peachtree Ridge.

The game was tied at 4-4 until Peachtree Ridge broke it in the bottom of the sixth inning.

North had three players hit home runs against Peachtree Ridge, Jaylyn Benson, Grace Connelly, and Bella Faw.

North Gwinnett’s record falls to 6-1 overall and 1-1 in region 8-AAAAAAA.

The Bulldogs have a double-header on Saturday at Lassiter High School.  Their first game is against Calhoun at 1:30 p.m. and at 3:30 p.m. they play their host Lassiter.
