Moments before noon Saturday, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office announced that the I-985 southbound ramp at Exit 8 at Lanier Islands Pkwy./Friendship Rd. has been closed.
The closure is a result of wrong-way drivers turning around to avoid congestion on the highway.
The incident occurred due to an accident at the split of I-985 and I-85. A tree landed on top of a vehicle. All southbound lanes are closed at the scene of the accident.
The Gwinnett County Police Department is investigating the crash.
No timetable has been provided for the reopening of the ramp.
Drivers can use either Spout Springs Rd. to connect to Friendship Rd. or SR 13 (Buford Hwy.) as an alternate.
