The mayors of Sugar Hill and Suwanee have been honored by the Georgia Municipal Association, a nonprofit organization that provides leadership, tools and services to assist municipal governments in becoming more innovative, effective and responsive.
Steve Edwards, mayor of Sugar Hill, and Jimmy Burnette, mayor of Suwanee, were inducted into the Georgia Municipal Government Hall of Fame during the GMA’s annual convention earlier in August.
Edwards was elected to the Sugar Hill City Council in 2003 and was elected mayor in 2014. He has been a resident of Sugar Hill for more than two decades.
A native of Suwanee, Burnette served as a council member for 16 years before being elected mayor in 2011.
The GMA Hall of Fame recognizes city officials who have made significant contributions to the cities they serve and have exhibited strong support of the association and its mission.
In other Georgia Municipal Association news, Sugar Hill council member Marc Cohen has been elected president of the association’s District 3 Northeast. In this role, Cohen will serve as a liaison between GMA and the district.
