(Buford, Ga.) — Good news for all the Rico’s World Kitchen fans out there, repairs are underway at the popular downtown Buford restaurant. On Wednesday afternoon, an elderly lady accidentally drove her silver Mazda into the front of the restaurant.
I spoke with the owner, Rico Cunnington about the incident and his plans for getting the restaurant reopened. “Hopefully, we will only be closed for a day or so,” said Cunnington. He stated that as far as they could tell, there wasn’t any structural damage to the building. The lady ran through the garage door and the door, as well as their dessert cooler, were what sustained the most damage.
They will have someone out at Rico’s tomorrow to reframe the exterior in front of the garage door. Replacement panels for the garage door are on order and Rico says he will be picking up a new dessert cooler tomorrow.
Following the repairs, Rico’s will need the okay from the City of Buford in order to open it’s doors again.
According to Cunnington, only one person was injured during this accident. “One of our servers had to go and get her leg checked out. There does not seem to be anything broken but there is some significant swelling,” he stated.
Cunnington knows that this incident could have ended up a whole lot worse and said, “I am just happy no one was seriously hurt.”
Rico’s is working hard to be able to reopen by the weekend. Rico Cunnington sends his thanks for the love and support that everyone has shown for Rico’s.
