The US Army Corps of Engineers announced that as of June 1, 2020, they have reopened the campgrounds that they manage on Lake Lanier. Old Federal Campground will not be among the campgrounds reopening. That campground was closed due to erosion problems and much-needed repairs.
People can begin reserving campsites on http://recreation.gov or by using the smartphone app starting June 1 as well.
Please note that only campgrounds utilizing the Recreation.gov website and smartphone app, and campgrounds with auto-fee machines, will be re-opening at the present time. Because there may be specific campgrounds not yet re-opening, USACE asks the public to monitor their local Facebook pages to track the status of desired campgrounds, or call the Project resource office.
All campsites will be 100% reservable with zero-day window. Please be aware that gate attendants are prohibited from completing onsite transactions, so campers are strongly encouraged to complete their reservations prior to arrival to expedite the check-in process.
Campers are asked to continue using social distancing practices and to obey all signage located around the campground and the facilities. Some signage will instruct campers on the number of people allowed in a certain area at one time. Also, some signs will let people know that certain facilities remain closed.
