A Buford man was at the wheel of an SUV that crashed and killed a passenger on Friday, May 21, 2021.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the single-vehicle accident occurred about 10:45 p.m. on Blackjack Road near Swansey Road in Hall County. Aaron Jones, 42, of Buford, was driving a 2018 Land Rover east on Blackjack Road heading into a curve with three passengers. When the driver failed to maintain his lane, the vehicle traveled off the right shoulder of the road and struck a utility pole before continuing to travel east, striking a tree and finally coming to a stop.

Edwin Landrau, 36, of Flowery Branch, sustained a fatal injury. The driver and the two other passengers were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment of injuries. David Tabrizipour, 37, of Flowery Branch, sustaining a serious, life-threatening injury. The driver, Jones, sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and Ronald Dutrow, 46, of Dacula, experienced serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

As of Monday, May 24, 2021, no charges had been filed but were pending. The driver is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol.

GSP’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is assisting in the ongoing investigation.
