BUFORD, Ga. — The Buford Wolves powered past Discovery 9-1 on April 1, also Buford’s Senior Night, using a six-run fourth inning before lightning ended the game after five innings at Gerald McQuaig Field. This victory highlights another exciting chapter for the Buford Wolves baseball team this season. Moreover, Buford Wolves baseball continues to excel in regional competitions.
The Wolves struck first in the opening inning when junior Ryan Johansen lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring sophomore Lio Garcia. Senior Ayden Lockett extended the lead to 2-0 in the third with another sacrifice fly. In Buford Wolves baseball, players showed impressive teamwork throughout the match.
Discovery answered with a run in the fourth, but Buford immediately took control. The Wolves exploded for six runs in the bottom half of the inning, highlighted by RBI doubles from senior Vance Bock and Garcia and a two-run home run from senior Mason Litt, the first varsity homer of his high school career, to build an 8-1 lead. Notably, Buford Wolves baseball demonstrated its power this inning.
Buford added one more in the fifth when Litt delivered a two-out RBI single to left, pushing the lead to 9-1 before officials halted play due to lightning. As a result, enthusiastic Buford Wolves baseball fans had plenty to cheer about after this impressive win.
Senior Ryland Perry (2-0) set the tone on the mound, striking out four over two hitless innings. Among Buford Wolves baseball players, seniors Maddox Degon, Chris Alcott and Addison Kemp followed with scoreless relief to close it out.
