GAINESVILLE — Hall County parents, students, and faculty grew concerned on Thursday afternoon when they received news that someone had come across a post on Twitter related to “a non-specific bomb threat” directed at the school system.  A person in Michigan came across the Tweet when they were searching for information about a bomb threat in their own area.  The person then alerted the authorities in Hall County.

The Sheriff’s Office contacted the Hall County School System about the Tweet.  Sheriff’s Office Investigators began working on tracing the source of the Tweet while the school system went into action.  School resource officers were organized to search the schools and the Sheriff’s Office added extra patrol officers to each school.  Hall County also had explosive ordinance dog teams on stand by in case they were needed.

An arrest was made in the early morning hours of Friday, August 9 in connection with this bomb threat.  Deputies took Destiny Kaila Sanchez, age 19 of Payne Road in Murrayville into custody at 3:30 a.m. Friday morning at a location in the 2,000 block of Broadway Drive in Gainesville.  She has been charged with terroristic threats and disruption of a public school.

“Using various digital investigative techniques, detectives developed information resulting in the execution of several search warrants that led to Sanchez’s arrest,” Deputy Derreck Booth, a Public Information Officer with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office told the North Gwinnett Voice in a written statement.

Sanchez was booked into the Hall County Jail and remains in custody.

The case is still under investigation by Hall County Sheriff Office Investigators.
