BUFORD — Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a woman wanted in connection with fraudulent purchases at the Von Maur department store located inside the Mall of Georgia in Buford.
The Gwinnett County Police Department was notified of the fraudulent charges by the owner of the credit card that was used to make the purchases. The victim who is a Florida resident told police that he was informed in February 2020 that his information including copies of his identification was being used to make an attempted purchase. This is what led the victim to trace back where his information got stolen from.
According to the victim, the only time he ever gave out that information and copies of his identification were in connection with a transaction he did with an Atlanta based real estate investment firm. He believes this is when his information was obtained.
On June 8, 2020, the victim’s credit card company notified him that his card had been used twice at the Von Maur department store in Buford. The first purchase was made at 2:47 p.m. in the amount of $525.76 and the second purchase was made at 2:49 p.m. for $448.38. The victim was at his residence in Florida at the time of these purchases and had the physical card with him.
The victim contacted the store as well to notify them of the fraudulent purchases. Security camera footage was obtained and it showed an African American woman wearing a black mini dress, a white/cream jacket with large buttons down the front, gold sandals that resemble “Birkenstocks”, and a gray Puma x Rhude bucket hat. She has a tattoo on her right chest.
