Buford baseball caps undefeated region season with 7-2 win over Dacula

BUFORD — Buford Wolves baseball closed out the 2026 regular season in dominant fashion Friday. They defeated Dacula Falcons baseball 7-2 at Gerald McQuaig Field to secure an undefeated run through Region 8-6A.

The victory clinched Buford’s sixth consecutive region championship and the program’s 26th overall title.

Senior right-hander Ryland Perry earned the win in his ninth start of the season, allowing two earned runs on six hits over five innings. He struck out six and walked one. Junior Carson Reeves closed out the game with two scoreless innings in relief, striking out three.

Buford (25-3-1) took the lead in the second inning when junior Ian Chafin delivered an RBI double to score Payton Walker. Walker had led off the inning with a double. Dacula answered in the third, tying the game with consecutive two-out doubles.

The Wolves broke the game open in the fourth inning with four runs. Senior Javy Ojeda led off with a double, and senior Vance Bock followed with an RBI single. After Carson Reeves reached base, Chafin delivered the decisive blow — a three-run home run to left field, the first of his varsity career — to extend the lead to 5-1.

Dacula added a run in the fifth, but Buford responded in the bottom half of the inning. With the bases loaded and no outs, an errant throw allowed one run to score. Reeves added a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 7-2.

Chafin led the Wolves offensively, going 2-for-3 with a home run, double and four RBIs. Reeves added an RBI, while Bock drove in one. Ojeda reached base twice and scored two runs.

Buford enters the Class 6A state playoffs as the No. 1 seed from Region 8-6A. They will face Richmond Hill Wildcats baseball, the No. 4 seed from Region 1-6A, in the first round.

The best-of-three series is scheduled to begin Friday, April 24, with a doubleheader at 4 p.m. An if-necessary third game would be played Saturday, April 25.
