Lanier Education Foundation invests $18,000 in cluster schools, student programs

The Lanier Education Foundation invested more than $18,000 during the past school year to support students, educators and programs throughout the Lanier Cluster.

The nonprofit also hosted its inaugural Color Run and awarded scholarships to three Lanier High School graduates.

Pierce Pruett received a scholarship and plans to attend the University of Georgia. Fellow recipients Alexia Reyes and Brady Dunning will attend Shorter University.

Additional money was reserved to help students with financial needs attend summer camp and support the Lanier Leadership Conference and multilingual initiatives. The foundation also plans to provide treats for employees during preplanning and sponsor staff appreciation luncheons throughout the upcoming school year.

Established in 2011, the foundation provides financial support to the five Lanier Cluster schools: Lanier High School, Lanier Middle School, Sugar Hill Elementary School, Sycamore Elementary School and White Oak Elementary School.

Nearly 5,000 students attend the cluster’s schools. The foundation works to expand academic, leadership and service opportunities while helping prepare students for college, careers and other postsecondary paths.

Unlike individual school PTAs, the foundation supports programs and needs affecting the entire cluster. Money raised through donations, sponsorships and community events helps fund classroom technology, mentoring programs, professional development for educators, student experiences and projects beyond those provided by the school district.

The Lanier Education Foundation Scholarship Fund was established in 2014. Its scholarships can assist students attending four-year universities, two-year colleges, community colleges and trade schools, as well as those pursuing eligible certificate or licensing programs.

Scholarship recipients are considered based on academic performance, leadership potential and continued service to the Lanier community.

The Lanier Education Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization operating under the Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation.

Community members can support the organization by donating, volunteering, attending events or becoming sponsors. For more information, visit laniereducationfoundation.org.
