BUFORD, Ga. — Lanier Islands Resort announced plans for a multi-phase investment in its Legacy Golf Course, including the addition of a night-lit par-3 course, a renovated clubhouse, and updated branding. The project is expected to open in spring 2026.
The development follows the resort’s recent announcement of renovations to its Legacy Lodge and LakeHouses accommodations.
The Legacy Golf Course, designed by Billy Fuller and opened in 2009, features 14 holes with views of Lake Lanier. The course has received regional and national recognition, including being named one of the top public courses in Georgia by GolfPass in 2025.
Resort President Matthew Bowling said the project is intended to build on the property’s golf history while expanding opportunities for visitors.
“Our connection to the game runs deep,” Bowling said. “With this investment, we’re honoring that legacy while also creating new experiences that make golf more accessible and social for guests.”
Plans include construction of a six-hole, night-lit par-3 course called “The Six,” designed to accommodate beginners, families, and experienced golfers. The project will also include a redesigned clubhouse dedicated to the memory of Lanier Islands Resort CEO Mike Williams.
The clubhouse, designed by golf architect Jim Chapman, will feature expanded dining areas, a bar and lounge, an upgraded pro shop, outdoor gathering spaces overlooking Lake Lanier, and flexible event space.
To accompany the golf improvements, the resort is working with golf brand designer Seth McWhorter to update the Legacy Golf Course identity and develop branding for the new par-3 course.
In addition to outdoor golf amenities, visitors can access year-round golf experiences at the resort’s indoor entertainment facility, Game Changer, which includes golf simulators, arcade games, duckpin bowling, axe-throwing, and dining.
Lanier Islands Resort officials said additional festivals and events are planned throughout 2026, including The Lights Fest, scheduled for March 27–28.
Lanier Islands Resort is located at 7000 Lanier Islands Parkway in Buford, about 45 miles north of Atlanta.
