Man arrested after allegedly recording women at Suwanee Walmart

SUWANEE, Ga. — A man is facing charges after police say he was caught using his cellphone to record up the skirts of women shopping at a Walmart in Suwanee.

Officers arrested 24-year-old Jae Ross on Aug. 17 after chasing him down in the store’s parking lot, according to the Suwanee Police Department.

Surveillance video showed Ross crouching near a woman in a green dress and attempting to film underneath her clothing, police said. The woman appeared unaware, but Walmart’s loss prevention team noticed his actions and contacted authorities.

“Kudos to Walmart and their loss prevention. They recognized the person had been there before, so they followed him, and as soon as they saw something that appeared to be illegal, they called us,” Suwanee Police Capt. Robert Thompson said.

Investigators said three women were photographed or recorded during the incident. Thompson also noted that Ross had been arrested in November 2024 on similar charges.

Ross was taken to the Gwinnett County Jail and charged with criminal trespass, obstruction of a law enforcement officer and using a device to record or observe underneath clothing. He was released two days later after posting bond.

Police said Ross’s cellphone was seized as part of the investigation and they are working to determine how the footage may have been used.

Thompson urged shoppers to remain alert. “If you feel like someone is invading your space, even if you don’t feel comfortable saying something to them, notify management, move out of that area, call the police. Just be aware,” he said.
